Requirements for the Baptism of Infants

For a child to be baptized at San Francisco Solano Church, the family must be registered members of San Francisco Solano Parish. However, if for pastoral reasons, the pastor grants permission for a non-registered family to celebrate the sacrament of baptism at San Francisco Solano Parish, the family must provide a letter of permission from their home parish to celebrate the Sacrament of Baptism at San Francisco Solano Parish and verification that the family has completed baptismal preparation in their home parish.

For families registered at San Francisco Solano Parish, both parents are required to attend one baptismal class prior to the baptism of their child, after which they may schedule a date for the celebration of the sacrament of baptism. Parents may choose to celebrate the sacrament of baptism the same month they attend the baptismal preparation class or at any other scheduled celebration of baptism.

If you are married in the Catholic Church, you may proceed with the scheduling of the baptismal class and date of your child’s baptism. However, if you are not married in the Catholic Church, no baptism may be scheduled nor may you attend the baptismal class until you first meet with either the Deacon or Parochial Vicar assigned to San Francisco Solano Parish so that you may discuss with him the possibility of your celebrating a marriage in the Church, enabling you to participate fully in the sacramental life of the Church. Please call the Parish Receptionist who will arrange for you to call either the Deacon or Parochial Vicar to schedule an appointment. (Please see Addendum, “Marriage in the Roman Catholic Church.”) Once you have met with the Deacon or Parochial Vicar, you may arrange with the parish office to attend the baptismal class and schedule the date of your child’s baptism.

Baptismal classes are scheduled on the first Wednesday of each month from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm in Meeting Room B in the Parish Center.
